Creation of the French-African Foundation
and launch of the French-African Young Leaders Program
Paris, April 2, 2019
Today marks the official launch of the French-African Foundation, whose mission is to identify, assemble and nurture the most promising high-potential talents on the Franco-African economic, political, academic, social and cultural ecosystems, and to support the leadership and management potential of this new generation.
In the face of immense global challenges – which require a new generation of leaders whose ambition is to become true agents of change – the French-African Foundation will launch its Young Leaders program to be held in 2019.
To promote inclusive leadership, the emergence of strong and open economies, the sustainability of the environment and the celebration of cultural diversity, the association solicited this year the double high patronage of the President of the French Republic Mr. Emmanuel Macron, and the President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Nana Akufo-Addo.
As of April 15, the call for applications for the French-African Young Leaders program will be launched for candidates aged between 28 and 40 years, of French nationality or nationals of a country on the African continent, and demonstrating leadership positively impacting their community or country. Selected candidates will have shown talent, passion and shared values that have the potential to contribute to transformative change in Africa and in France. Laureates will be welcomed in France in the summer and in Ghana in autumn. This program represents an exceptional opportunity to engage with other candidates as well as with national and continental leaders in the public and private sector.
This initiative will build on the proud legacy of the AfricaFrance Foundation, whose highly successful Young Leaders Program in 2017 brought together 20 high-potential talents selected from a highly competitive pool of 569 applicants from 43 countries.
The French-African Foundation is initiated by the fellows of the 2017 class of AfricaFrance Young Leaders: Alexandre Coster (French, Baobab+), Khaled Igue (Beninois, Club 2030 Afrique), Yvonne Mburu (Kenyan, Nexakili, member of the French Presidential Council for Africa), Marion Scappaticci (French, SouthBridge) and Grégoire Schwebig (French, Haussmann Group). They came together to collectively support the emergence of a new generation of Franco-African leaders, able, by their values and means of action, to meet the economic, social and political challenges of our time.
The Foundation counts among its initial supporters the Duval Group, Egon Zehnder, Publicis Consultants, Deloitte, l’Essec, Baobab (ex Microcred), QIMA (ex AsiaInspection) and the French Agency for Development.
About the French-African Foundation Convinced that the young people of Africa and France belong to a single generation and that they bear shared responsibilities in a world in common, the French-African Foundation – which relies on a Franco-African public-private co-financing model – wishes to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of Franco-African leaders, able, by their values and means of action, to meet the economic, social and political challenges of our time.
